Where do I find information about Metric Steel and Shape Properties in the United States?
Metric Shape Properties Metric properties of structural steel shapes produced in the U.S. are available in the LRFD Manual of Steel Construction, Metric Conversion of the Second Edition, Volume I Structural Members, Specifications, and Codes. This is AISC item number M022, and was published in 1999. It supercedes all previous metric shape publications issued by AISC. Metric shape properties and tolerances are governed by ASTM A6/A6M, available from ASTM at 610-832-9500. For connection design using metric units, a metric conversion of Volume II Connections is also available as item number M023. Metric Steel Properties Mechanical properties of structural steel are outlined in the appropriate ASTM standard. The metric unit for structural steel yield stress is MPa. For example, ASTM A572 Grade 50 steel is also available in A572M Grade 345. Contact ASTM at 610-832-9500.
