Where do Fort Lewis College students come from?
Most schools similar to FLC have a much large percentage of students whose permanent home is within 100 miles. We have a disproportionate number of students whose homes are 100+ and 500+ miles from FLC. Since the Freshman Survey was administered in the residence halls, the local students who live off campus were not included. Roughly 8 percent of respondents’ permanent homes are within 50 miles. According to the Role and Mission Report submitted to CCHE in November 2001, two thirds of FLC freshmen are Colorado residents, with 46 percent from the Front Range, 24 percent from southwest Colorado and 30 percent from other parts of Colorado. When we consider the entire 4 Corners area 18 percent of the Freshman class comes from NM, AZ, and UT, 20 percent from southwest Colorado 37 percent from the Front Range and 25 percent from other Colorado areas. Fifteen percent of the freshmen responding to the survey are Native American; the majority of these students are from the 4 Corners area. Inter
