Where do fashion designers get their fabrics from?

Check the advertisers index in Threads magazine for starters. Short answer: designers don’t shop in fabric stores. They go to trade shows or the really high end designers commission fabric to be made exclusively for them. But there are a number of sources of good fabrics around, and if you know your fabrics, downtown LA isn’t the worst place in the world to shop for them… though you’ve got to dig.
