Where do attach an earthing wire and clamp to my domestic water supply?
If someone is getting shocked from the washing machine it is most definately at fault. If you just earth the water pipe you are disguising the fault and may even make the situation worse by making the plumbing in your house “live”. Remember that you cannot be absolutely certain that your pipes are making a good underground “earth” (they may be plasic or in gravel). You should check the wires in the machine’s plug first to see if they’re tight and correct. If it’s a moulded on plug then it should be ok. Try something else in the socket and see it’s case is “live” with a neon screwdriver. If you don’t have one of these or don’t know how to use it then do not guess. Electricity is not a laughing matter and you must not attempt to guess at a fault or fixing it. All the pipework in your house should already be properly earth bonded so it would be unwise of you, and potentially dangerous, to attempt what you are suggesting. If in doubt you must consult a qualified repair man. PS As well as b
