Where did WBI come from?
WBI was developed in the USER Group in the Computer Science Department at IBM Almaden Research Center. See our little story. • What is transcoding? Transforming information from one form to another is sometimes called transcoding. Intermediaries, such as WBI, make good platforms for developing and deploying transcoding applications. • What is the relationship between WBI and IBM WebSphere Transcoding Publisher? Plugins developed with WBI Development Kit version 4.5 will run under IBM WebSphere Transcoding Publisher (WTP) version 1.1.2 with a few exceptions. Several features new to WBI 4.5 have not yet been incorporated into WTP, though they will be available in a future release of WTP. In particular, • the new MegObject interface • the HttpCookie and HttpSetCookie as well as HeaderField and some methods of MimeHeaderAscii • RequestEvent.mayReject() and RequestEvent.wontReject() are not available in WTP 1.1. Plugins developed for WBI DK version 4.4 will run without qualification on WTP
