Where did Thomas Newcomen get his inspiration from to develop the steam engine?
Newcomen was an ironmonger by profession in an era when there were already a few rudimentary steam engines around what Newcomen did was to utilize the principle of a lever to transfer energy – – – levers have been known to man since caveman days. The easiest answer is that Newcomen was a natural observer & thinker who studied the available models and made his own significant improvement.
