Where did the “survival instinct” (that all flora and fauna share) come from?
Survival instinct is better for survival, and individuals who possess it tend to pass their genes on, it’s pretty basic stuff. Non-life has no instincts, let alone survival ones, but it does have properties that may cause it to replicate better than competing non-life. Which will of course be preserved in survivors.
