Where did the name Tandalay come from?
a. Tandalay is derived from the word “Tandy” found in the 1919 novel by Sherwood Anderson entitled Winesburg, Ohio. Tandy has a number of deep meanings, of which we barely scratch the surface of here. Tandy is a rare and beautiful quality found in certain individuals. It is strength that comes from defeat. It is the manifestation and evidence of God in a child. It is an ideal. “Dare to be strong and courageous. Venture anything. Be brave enough to dare to be loved. Be something more than man or woman. Be Tandy.” b. We think of Tandalay as an opportunity to instill a sense of courage, a willingness to try new things, and a confidence that comes from within. Tandalay is perseverance, integrity, honor, and compassion.
