About half of the funding for the new library came from the city. Most of this was from developer fees that were restricted as to their use. This money was mostly from the Gateway/Montanera/Wilder project and was designated for community recreational facilities. The source of the other half of the library funding ($5 million) was private donations, raised by the Friends of the Orinda Library.
