• Islam Hadhari was introduced in Malaysia by the current Prime Minister of Malaysia, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, in 2004. • Distinguished Arab writers such as Said Ramadhan al-Buti and M. ‘Abid al-Jabiri, began to employ the term “Islam Hadhari” in the 1990s in preference to other expressions such as “political Islam” or “militant Islam.” The expression Islam Hadhari offers a Muslim response of peace and harmony in contrast to Samuel Huntington’s thesis of the inevitability of a “clash of civilisations.
