Devils were misguided spirits or “faries” or “knomes” or any mischevious spirit and catholics were busy being romans and “taking over the world pinky” for the first few centuries and thier religion was just one of the things you had to adhere to in name only so you could be free, able to trade with the powerful conglomorate, pay taxes and have roads, and heated water, and gladiators in the rings on the weekends in town! So pitchforks were relativly common symbols for gods, and also a weapon that was pretty easy to make and have as a fisherman or seaside hunter or even a farmer. Became an evil symbol of fear, of degradation, of do not use as a weapon or we will say you’re more then just angry you’re “posessed” and evil and we’re stripping you of all rights and useing our mighty power to take from you your lands, goods, rights, and keep them for ourselves. Think, common sense…, a pitchfork is large, long, and has a good aim, even
