Where did the fabulous photos on the website come from?
The photographs on this website are taken from The Company of Others, a book co-created by the award-winning team of writer Sandra Shields and photographer David Campion, who have themselves been part of a social network for three years. Spending approximately the first six months of 2004 travelling across Canada, meeting with families, David and Sandra interviewed and photographed circles of support culminating in these inspirational photographs. They have collaborated on many projects, including Where Fire Speaks, winner of a B.C. Book Prize; an article for The Globe and Mail about Sandra’s relationship with her younger brother with a disability (for which they won a National Media Award from the Canadian Association for Community Living), and photo essays for Canadian Geographic, Reader’s Digest and Geist.
