Where Did The Dollar [currency] Symbol Originate?
Dollar represents the official currency of many countries and is represented by the symbol $. The last known use of this sign was in business correspondence between British North America and Mexico in the 1770. There are a number of historical references about this sign but its ultimate origin is unknown. However, it is believed by majority that it came from the Spanish coat of Arms that consists of two pillars of Hercules and an S shaped ribbon around each pillar having the motto Non Plus Ultra. It is engraved on the Spanish Colonial Silver coins.
