Where did the comments on the stories go?
We are no longer allowing people to post comments at the end of stories we publish online. The News-Journal reached this decision after significant feedback from readers who expressed concern that online comments too often are mean-spirited, or state facts inaccurately or degenerate into arguments between those leaving comments that have nothing to do with the stories under which they are posted. We have also concluded that anonymous online comments are at odds with other News-Journal news standards. For example, we don’t allow unnamed sources in our local news stories except in rare circumstances, and we don’t publish unsigned letters to the editor. In making this change, we recognize that our website will not be as interactive for some online readers who use comments to make worthy observations about the news of the day. To those who wish to comment on the news, we welcome your signed letters to the editor, which we publish both in print and online. They can be sent to letters@news-j
