Where did the band typically play?
DA: We first started out playing some nightclubs in the area. One in particular was a place in Lowell called the Cinnamon Lounge. I also can remember a club we played at in Ayer, Massachusetts which is a town that borders the army base Ft. Devens. We had finished playing for the night and stopped in a local restaurant on the way home to get something to eat when we encountered some army guys form Ft. Devens who didn’t like us and wanted to start trouble only because we had long hair. After we became the house band at the Commodore we played mostly colleges and universities and some of the larger ballrooms and show rooms at the beach resorts in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. 60s: Were you a member at the time the group was the house band for the Commodore Ballroom? DA: Yes, I was a member at the time we played at the Commodore. The Commodore was an older dance ballroom in Lowell that featured mostly big dance type bands that played mostly music from the ‘40’s.
