Where did that work ethic come from?
David Wright: Growing up, not only in baseball, but my parents taught me at a young age that no matter what you do – whether it was schoolwork where I made extremely good grades and I have one brother who is going to engineering school at Virginia Tech and another who is in business school at James Madison – no matter if you’re a business major or an engineer or a baseball player, they wanted us to be the best, to strive to be the best. That work ethic was instilled in us at a young age. My dad taught me, hey if I don’t get to the big leagues, if I don’t have the career that I was expecting, that’s okay, but don’t let it be because I didn’t work hard enough. Reach your potential, make sure you max out and don’t allow yourself not to get where you want to get because you didn’t work hard enough.
