Where did Speed Dating originate from?
The concept of speed dating originated in California in 1999 by an orthodox rabbi called Yaacov Deyo who designed the idea due to his concerns that many young Jews were marrying outside their faith and thought this an efficient way to establish potential matches. The first event for Jewish singles took place in 2000 and took a major leap forward in 2002 when Miranda in sex and the city attended an event in New York. Although the concept started in America it was considered an exciting and effective idea in the UK and is now a fun and funky way to meet potential partners without the historic stigma of personal introduction agencies and internet dating.
