Where did researchers find the boyhood home of Washington?
I’m so glad someone asked about this, as I find it very interesting and very exciting that they found his boyhood home. I love archaeological excavations! It must be like being on a treasure hunt. Even when we visited Mount Vernon last fall I was moved. All my life I’ve heard about this man, and to be where he actually lived, and then be at the crypt that contains his actual body–it was just an amazing feeling for me! It was like he was actually there with us! The site of Washington’s boyhood home is located at Ferry Farm, just across the Rappahannock River from Fredericksburg, Va., about 50 miles (80 kilometers) south of Washington. It was a one-and-a-half-story residence perched on a bluff overlooking the river. It made him real, rather than a story book hero, to me.
