Where Did Longfellow Die?
Longfellow was the surname of an American poet. His full name was Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. His works include Paul Revere’s Ride, A Psalm of Life, The song of Hiawatha and Evangeline. He was also the first American to translate Dante Aligheri’s Divine Comedy. He was also a member of the Fireside Poets a group consisting of five members. He was born in 1807 in Portland, Maine. He had seven siblings. Nathaniel Hawthorne, the author of Scarlet Letters was his lifelong friend. He married Frances Appleton and had six children with her. His wife died in a fire accident and this left Longfellow heartbroken. He died on March 24, 1882 due to peritonitis. It is a disease defined as inflammation of the peritoneum. This disease causes a surgical emergency. He was very well known during his lifetime though modern critics consider him too sentimental. The site of his death is not known exactly but it is believed that he died in Cambridge.
