Where did Kung Fu come from?
The venerable Bodhidharma came from India to China to spread Bhuddism. In 527 CE he settled down in the shaolin monastery in henan province, inspired by the development of Shaolin Kung Fu, famed for its physical skill and dexterity. The Shaolin Monastery had previously been founded by another Indian, a Monk named Batuo, in 495 CE, under the patronage of Emperor Xiao Wen Di. Bodhidharma, an Indian Prince who had renounced his life of luxury to teach the tenets of Bhuddism, had arrived at the monastery to teach, but to his surprise, the Monks he found there were too weak to practice meditation, the most essential method of attaining Enlightenment. He taught them a series of external excercises called the Eighteen Lohan Hands, and a system of Internal exercise known as the Classic of Sinew Metamorphosis.
