6cm long green caterpillars are NOT carpet moth larvae Goodness only knows where they have come from but probably from some greenery outside and have come inside to pupate ( spin a cocoon) & hibernate for the winter.A picture would be good, try uk safari for identification purposes. Sounds like they might be some sort of hawkmoth to me.Lovely creatures. Please don’t hurt them.
