Where did Emperor Hirohito lead his military?
Emperor Hirohito personally threatened to lead his Imperial Guard (the Konoe Division) to put down a military coup, known as the “February 26 Incident” in 1936. The coup, was led by a group of junior Japanese Army officers, which were put down, with the remaining hold outs, put to justice; or in the case of the enlisted men, allowed to return to their units. Emperor Hirohito did not have to carry out his threat of putting down the rebellion with his “Imperial Guards.
