Where did clogging originate?
Clogging is an authentic American folk dance whose roots are buried deep in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains which run through the Eastern states of Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Virginia. In the mid-1700’s, large numbers of Scottish, English, Irish and German immigrants settled in the Appalachians, bringing with them their traditional folk dances. In addition to these European cultural influences, our tragic history of slavery brought black Africans to the mountains with their own style of dancing. And of course, native American Indians were also indigenous to the Appalachian Mountains. They were very friendly to the white mountain settlers from Great Britain.
