Where did chile peppers originate?
A. Chile peppers are believed to have originated in what is known as the “nuclear area” in southern Brazil near the border with Bolivia. Birds and indigenous people helped move the chile peppers range to the north into Central America and eventually into the United States. Migration to the rest of the world occurred in 1493 when Christopher Columbus brought chiles to Spain from the Caribbean. Sailors then distributed chiles to India and Asia where they are used extensively today.
