Schools are a very important in one’s life and it seems that the schools that Charles Darwin went to played a significant role in his future career. Darwin started his formal schooling at the in 1817, when he was 8 years old. He went to a small school run by the Reverend George Case near his house. A year later, in 1818, he went to Shrewsbury School, where his older brother was boarding. At the age of 16, in October 1825, he attended the University of Edinburgh for a year to study medicine. On February 26, 1928, he matriculated at the University of Cambridge’s Senate House. Even though schools are important, don’t forget the other “informal” influences that Darwin had had during his life. For example, his paternal grandfather, Erasmus Darwin, was a natural philosopher who was also every interested in evolution.
