Where did Belgian waffle makers originate?
Belgian waffles were made popular at the New York World’s Fair in 1964. Maurice Vermersch, a chef and restaurant owner from Brussels, Belgian, brought them to America as a delightful snack. He called his waffles “Bel-Gem Waffles”, because his American clients had no idea where Belgian was. Those same “Bel-Gem Waffles”are served in restaurants and homes around the world today with the name shortened to Belgium or Belgian waffles.
