Where did Australias first satellite TV broadcast originate from?
John, Vic Barely a dot on the map, Carnarvon on the West Australian coast was home to a satellite earth station, built to provide communications for NASAs Apollo Moon project. But when the Early Bird 2 satellite went AWOL the opportunity to make television history presented itself. [Archive footage] There are periods when the satellite is visible both from Australia and the UK and we are in one of these periods at the moment. Carnarvon had no television of its own and townsfolk watched as the ABC crew set about transforming their main street into a television studio. Among the crew was ABC broadcaster Peter Pockley.
