Where did American and Soviet troops meet up in Germany?
On the 25th of April, 1945, reconnaissance troops from the US first army met Soviet troops from the 1st Ukrainian front near the town of Torgau on the river Elbe. The meeting of the two allied armies cut the remaining German defending armies in two and was a major milestone in the sequence of events ending World War Two in Europe.
