Where can you sell antique shotguns and find their values?
In order to be considered an antique according to the federal government, they must have been manufactured before January 1, 1899. If you can’t prove it is older, the Feds assume it is newer and you have to jump through their hoops to sell it. Some states have even more restrictive laws, so check with a licensed firearms dealer. First you need to identify the guns. The Standard Catalog of Firearms would probably be the first book to get. Your local library should have a copy. It will also give you some good information on how to determine the condition of the guns, and that is the key to the value. Then, if they are really antique, you can sell them yourself on one of the online auction sites (antiqueguns.com, gunbroker.com, gunsamerica.com). If they are not antiques, you can still handle most of the sale yourself, but you will have to turn the guns over to a licensed dealer to ship them to a dealer in the buyer’s home state (and both dealers will want to be paid for their services).
