Where can the public find open audition for big films, e.g. harry potter?
There are very rarely any half-decent open auditions anywhere – and when there are, thousands of hopefuls will be there fighting to be seen. And most of these will be experienced, qualified actors. Acting jobs are almost impossible to get unless you are a member of Equity, but graduating from drama school gets you membership. The difficulty is that when you audition for any drama school, you will be one of several thousand, all fighting for about 24 places. Comparatively few get in, and even if you do, it means three years of very hard work in most cases. Unless you are incredibly lucky, the only way is to get paid acting work is though an agent. Unfortunately, you can’t just ‘get’ an agent – they usually come looking for you. Many agents will not even allow you through the door unless you have done three years’ training at RADA, or one of the major drama schools, and getting in to any of them is really hard – they get up to 4,000 auditionees applying for 24 places every year. It’s pretty much pot luck to find open auditions these days especially for acting and if there anywhere there on the stage website. You can subscribe for free and it gives many listings for auditions like singing/acting/dancing etc. If you did want to apply for any internet casting agencies or any agent for that matter, always remember that if they ask for money upfront is usually suspicious. Generally agents take a percentage from your pay. but try abacus a go, they have a good reputation.
