Today marks the 7th annual Bastille Day celebration on trendy Smith street in the Boerum Hill/Carroll Garden section of Brooklyn from noon-10pm. Bastille Day is the historic date in which the French citizens stormed the notorious French prison the “Bastille” in Paris effectively setting off the French Revolution on July 14, 1789. It is actually celebrated on July 14 but heck the 12th on a Sunday will do just as well. Its sponsored by Bar Tabac and Robin de Bois, both acclaimed and successful French restaurants on Smith street. It is also sponsored by the aperrtif company Ricard. There are numerous events that will make the day enjoyable. Live music will be provided from 3-8 pm by the Francois Weiss Ensemble and Michael Arnella and his Dreamland Orchestra. There’s going to be numerous food vendors hawking Merquez sausages, probably somebody making crepes and other standout foods of French origin.
