Being one that doesn’t watch TV often, this series did catch my attention due to the premise of geek meets beauty. (Although, it might have also been all the massive media blitz of commercials, but we’ll move on.) First, this series is definitely carried by the central character Chuck, who is played by Zachary Levi. His situation/role sort of reminds me of Topher Grace from “That 70s show.” A very likable character with qualities that all, especially the geeks, can relate to. Secondly, the plot is so straightforward and easily laid out that anyone can be brought up to speed relatively quickly. Geeky guy gets smart. Beautiful CIA agent protects him. Done. Some people might find this as a drawback, but for someone like me who misses episodes every now and then, that’s a plus. Thirdly, the support characters do a great job by not feeling out of place and forcing their lines. Yes, I do agree that there have been wanton scenes of a scantily clad Sarah, played by Yvonne Strahovski, but who a

Eager critics were willing to dismiss Chuck early on, as it had many apparent similarities to UPN’s failure of a show, Jake 2.0, which really wasn’t all that fair of a comparison: I mean, UPN could have had sole broadcast rights to the Moon landings, and they still would’ve had to cancel it halfway through. I know it’s not exactly a challenge to insult UPN, but I mean, really. Have they ever had one show, other than Star Trek, that lasted more then two seasons on its schedule? Sure, I could go easy on them – maybe it’s just that they didn’t have the contacts that the other networks had, being new in the business: but they passed on Malcolm in the Middle, which, although being a terribly unfunny show, was a success for FOX. Then they killed Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And Star Trek went down the tubes quicker than Data’s reflexes once it became UPN-exclusive. And that’s why UPN was a horrible TV station.
