Where can methyl alcohol be bought?
You can buy it in automotive maintence stores under the guise of a gas tank anti-freeze agent called “Heet.” They sell it in little yellow bottles, about 1 1/2 cups of it or so. Make sure not to get the red “Iso-Heet” bottles, those are pure usopropyl alcohol. They’re usually pretty cheap. If you want even more you can sometimes find it in hardware stores. I know in my local store they sell it in quarts and gallon jugs. The gallon jugs are about 7-8 dollars. They’re labeled under different names, sometimes methanol, or methyl alcohol, but there are others. Check the solvent section and read the labels of each solvent closely, sometimes they even use obscure names like “burning alcohol.” It burns with an almost invisible blue flame. If you dissolve boric acid in it, it’ll burn green, which is always fun.
