Where can I see Lucha Libre in person?
Tijuana and Mexico City have frequent shows. However, don’t think these are the only two cities, as Lucha Libre is quite a national pastime of Mexico. You can commonly find the week’s events by searching in SuperLuchas or in Tiempo Libre magazine. Its quite common for a large company such as AAA to make stops in the tourist cities of Acapulco or Cancun. There are also several small lucha groups that run cards in the southern portion of MExico, where CMLL and AAA typically does not travel. In the United States, Anaheim CA has lucha every Sunday, with min-tours of the west coast by groups like WPW being a common thing. Even with small “bush league” promotions like this, MAJOR stars like Hijo del Santo and Mil Mascaras are often on hand to wow the crowds. Hybrid “street lucha” can be seen in Hispanic neighborhoods in New York City, and performance art groups in Boston and Providence, RI perform their own brand of bizzarre costumed ring shows.
