Where can I purchase yarn for crochet in Guernsey, Channel Islands?
Welcome to Guernsey. You can get crochet yarn from the Creaseys shop in Mill Street or The Wool Cellar at Cobo Village Centre. We have lost a couple of wool shops in recent years so there is less variety but these shops are helpful if you want anything special. My own shop is more into cardcraft and scrapbooking supplies but we do keep some embroidery yarns. Re the first answer the jumpers known as Guernseys are indeed renowned but are made from a special oiled yarn. They were designed for fishermen and are very hard wearing, windproof and water resistant. Knitting was a major industry in Elizabethan times when a concession was granted to import English wool into the island. The pay was so good that almost the entire population was knitting, men, women & children and a law had to be passed to make people attend to their normal work first.
