If you want Scottish citizenship rather than British citizenship, you will have to be patient. the next Scottish Parliament elections are in May 2007. If the Scottish National Party wins them (which is becoming more and more likely each week), there will be a referendum on whether Scotland should be an independent country. It is unlikely, but you may qualify for the new Scottish citizenship automatically. In any case, you should check to see if you would have problems with your US citizenship.
