Where can I mail order culture starter for making yogurt at home?
Q Hello Uncle Dave! Would you happen to know where I could mail order culture starter for making yogurt at home. I made a soy/dairy cream cheese at home the other day. Used soy milk, but used a dairy natural set yogurt for my starter. Then followed instructions in my book on how to turn the natural yogurt into cream cheese. It is quite nice. But I would like to kick out the dairy altogether. A I am sorry, but I do not know where you can buy non-dairy culture from. But you can use commercial soy yogurt as the starter. Currently, the only completely dairy-free soy yogurt is Kingland, made by King International, so I suggest you try this one. (The yogurt starter culture in other brands is raised on a dairy protein base which may leave a trace of animal protein in the final product.) Update received: Hi Dave.
