Where can I learn how to shape and draw eyes for anime characters?
First, the angle of the upper lid is the key to how the rest of the eye will look. Eyes that go up in the corners tend to be mischievous or sly; eyes that go down are often gentle or sad. I learned by watching lots of anime and reading lots of manga and then copying them on a new piece of paper. I don’t mean tracing. Just find an eye that looks interesting to you and see if you can replicate it line by line. A few things to keep in mind: Anime irises are much larger than realistic irises. Large eyes usually denote innocence or children; smaller or narrower eyes are used for adults and mature characters. Tiny irises indicate intensity and focus, and are often used for bad guys. If you don’t draw pupils, the character will have a blank expression.
