Where can I launch a boat in the City of Richmond?
There are several sites along the James River for access: Canoes or Small John Boats: • To launch a canoe or small john boat for flat water use – go to the Huguenot Woods area of the James River located under the Huguenot Bridge. This area of the James River offers excellent fishing and is a good place to learn how to paddle. • For small whitewater (Class I and Class II) – go to the Pony Pasture Rapids and take it out at Reedy Creek (3 miles downstream). • For big whitewater (Class III – Class V) put your boat in at Reedy Creek and take it out at either 12th and Byrd Streets or a Mayo Island at the tressle. Motorboats: • You can launch your motorboat at Ancarrows Landing, located on Maury Street 1/2 mile east of the Interstate 95 Bridge. You’ll find a concrete ramp for 150 trailers. Ancarrows Landing is a very popular spot in the spring and summer on weekends and holidays. For additional information, a map, or directions please call the James River Park Manager at 804-646-8911.
