Vaginoplasty is a technically demanding operation and is only carried out in various specialised centres in this country. It depends on why you require a vaginoplasty as to whether it is available on the NHS or not. The two common causes are: a) females who are born without a vagina – in which case this is almost certainly available on the NHS. b) if the vagina and the opening to the vagina have been damaged in childbirth leading to scarring, constriction of the opening and difficulty in intercourse. This would also be correctable on the NHS. Gender reassignment surgery, where a male wishes to become female, is another reason for vagina reconstruction and is also available on the NHS. This is regulated by Gender Reassignment Clinics run by the National Health Service and patients have to go through a long selection process before they are referred for surgery.
