The FORCE Web site at www.facingourrisk.org and the FORCE organization have free resources and support for people with or concerned about hereditary cancer. SUE FRIEDMAN, DVM Sue Friedman founded Facing Our Risk Empowered (FORCE)—a national nonprofit organization devoted to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by hereditary breast and ovarian cancer—in 1999 after learning she carried a mutation that led to her breast cancer diagnosis at age 33. Sue retired from veterinary medicine to direct FORCE full-time. She participates as an advocate on the National Comprehensive Cancer Network panel that develops standard-of-care guidelines in oncology and is a volunteer for the Consumer Advocates in Research and Related Activities program of the National Cancer Institute.
