Other than buying them at a bookstore where you can actually see what you’re buying beforehand, the only way to be sure not to get those covers is to buy a used copy printed before the movie was released. There have been occasions when I’ve bought something from Amazon and the cover was not the same as the one pictured on the web page, but usually that isn’t the case. My copy of A Scanner Darkly is about 20 years old – no cheesy cover there. Okay, that’s a lie, the cover is still cheesy but there’s no weird Keanu on it.
