I have Xbox Live but this link is the way to do it. Personally I wouldn’t bother doing it unless you have live as it seems pretty pointless and the older one is easier to navigate around. And probably takes less memory on your Hard Drive. But hey, it’s up to you.

The easiest way to download firmware / auto updates is to temporarily relocate your 360 next to the router / PC or a friend’s house. You don’t need gold, just plug and play. I do this for my nieces, they bring over their games and I quickly load them up one by one in search of firmware and software updates. There’s even a lot of DLC that can be played offline such as Borderlands and Marvel Alliance. Seriously, if you have the PC to create a CD or USB save, you may as well skip that timely step and plug in direct.
