Where can i get the best exchange rate from pound to euro for my holiday?
Everyone in the world uses the am-ex tourist rate for exchanging currencies. Only one company does better, the Nationwide Building Society. Use their debit card anywhere in the world and receive the mid-rate for currency exchange (their credit card for purchases ONLY gives the same deal). No fees for the debit card use and you will get 4% more euros for every pound. PS American express are very expenisve.
When I went in august the best rate was from the post office, i compared the rates of several banks etc but the post office came out top, plus they will change your money back for free if you have any left over when you get back 😉 I found the rate out of the ATM was about 2cents to the pound worse than from the post office, plus many banks (including mine) charge you for withdrawing from ATMs abroad, it varies but it is usually around £1 to £1.50 per transaction, and that was using a link card which is free to use on ATMs in the UK, so it is worth bearing that in mind too. Have a great holiday!
You generally get a slightly better rate abroad than you do in Britain. So change the money when you get there. Although it relating to dollars a relatively recent Which survey found that First Choice travel agents gave the best exchange rate and Thomas Cook the worst. It doesn’t say if the positions change if it were euros but at least gives you an idea who might be best to look at. http://www.which.co.uk/advice/how-to-cut… I personally use my ATM card for convenience and in contrast to wytchey have always found the exchange rate offered to be very good. In my own case the advantage of that is negated by the charges levied by my own bank. Those charges make it more prudent to make a few large withdrawals rather than several small one.
