Where can I get a summer job at a day camp working with kids and horses?
I have been a camp counselor and am still involved with this camp, and have had experience at several camps. They all have a minimum age requirement to work there, and you’re simply not old enough yet. It has nothing to do with experience yet. Much of it is regulated by the camp’s policy or by laws on how old people must be to work with kids, etc. Once you turn 15 or 16, you can find a camp with a CIT or LIT program (which stands for Counselor or Leader In Training). You would spend several weeks (or all summer, depending on how the camp is set up) working with the horses/kids while getting training and guidance from the counselors. How it works at the camps I’ve been to is that you don’t get paid for the work, but you stay and eat for free. It sets you up to be hired once you ARE old enough. You can try to find a camp that will allow you to volunteer working in their barn as an alternative for now, too.
