Where can i get a Gramophone style vinyl player ?
78’s were still made in the 1940’s…I’ve got hundreds of them. In Edison’s days recordings were made were on cylinders, not disks, and played on phonographs, later known as gramophones when disks made of vinyl plastic were used for the recordings, which were then called records. Gramophones used a wind-up spring driven mechanical motor to turn the records, and became obsolete when electric motors were used instead. What you are looking for is a record player or a turntable. Record player normally means a unit with an amplifier and speaker (or speakers) built in. The biggest-selling one through the 60’s was the Dansette, and like all the others played 33’s, 45’s, and 78’s. Well known brands were Garrard, Pye, Ferguson, Goodmans, Ultra, and Marconi, and many other brands were available. 33’s are known as LP’s, standing for Long Playing. 45’s are called singles, having only one track per side.
