Where can I get a good price on pure vanilla extract?

It is simple to make but takes a while before you can use it. You will need Madagascar vanilla beans. (I have been told they are the best.) I was able to get them on Ebay but that was several years ago. Six or eight pods are a good amount. Also – you need a CHEAP bottle of vodka. I bought a half gallon of vodka when I made it. Slit the pods down the center, exposing the beans inside. Crush the beans…leaving them inside the pod. Drop 6 or 8 of these pods with the beans inside into the bottle of vodka. Tighten the cap and leave it stored in a cool, dark place for 3 months. After it has aged, pour the vodka through a piece of cheesecloth to remove the residue and place the vanilla in little bottles. Voila! The initial investment is probably more than you expected to spend, but it is great to have your own homemade vanilla. Also…because I made a half gallon, I have not had to make it in about 10 years. You can even buy fancy bottles, make some labels and give it as little gifts.
