Where can I find work experience in civil / environmental engineering?

There is no quick answer to this one. There are a great many firms who employ civil, environmental and geomatic engineers. Many will be happy to take on students during their vacation periods and possibly during a gap year between school and university. Some will even formalise the relationship through a sponsorship. The ICE Quest scholarship is a good place to start. This is a prestigious award which is essentially the same as a sponsorship with one of the companies who subscribe to the scheme. If you want to find the names of some of the big employers, a good place to start is the New Civil Engineer magazine. Having found the names of companies it would be worthwhile to take a look at their websites to find contact details and possibly even details of schemes for undergraduate students. If you haven’t fixed up something before you arrive at UCL, we have relationships with a number of firms – many based in London – who are keen to find students to do work in their vacations.
