I’m very sorry to hear about the Geek Squad experience… sounds bad. First and foremost, figure out if you’re trying to actually save or recover anything from the computer. The likelihood that you can restore the operating system to any functional level is slim, but you might be able to recover pictures, important documents, or software license information for later legally installing applications you’ve paid for. If you do want — or need — to recover information, stop now and ignore the rest.
