ANKENY 32, WAUKEE 29 (2 OT) Ankeny’s Cole Netten booted the football into the air. Moments later, Netten himself was soaring. Netten kicked a 20-yard field goal to give No. 2 Ankeny a 32-29 double-overtime win over Waukee on Friday. The teams finished regulation tied at 22-22. Both scored a touchdown in the first overtime. After Waukee missed a field-goal attempt, Netten got his dream opportunity before an estimated crowd of 6,500. The ball went through the uprights and teammates lifted the sophomore off the ground. “I really love kicking,” Netten said. “Kicking is one of my passions.” Waukee’s Chad Owens scored one touchdown and passed for two more in the CIML opener. He ran for a 3-yard score with 5:02 left in the game, a touchdown that forced overtime. As the Athletic Director, he quickly learned about the complexity of managing all sports programs — facilities, coaches, students, parents, officials, scheduling, transportation and much more. To stay organized, he created a custom book, much like a day planner, tracking all the logistics of all sports. Sonny attended the various Athletic Director conferences at the league, state and national levels and showed his peers how he stayed organized. They aske
